Need A Break – What?

I like this question. Let’s be honest, we all need a break from something. The problem comes when deciding which thing we need a break from in the first place. Am I right? There is a plethora of things to choose from, but in reality, we can’t actually get a full break from any of it. It always lingers in our minds still plaguing us with its problems and frustrations. However, I have found that little “me moments” work the best. Let me explain.

I discovered “me moments” when I was a mother of four little boys. I learned this out of necessity or I’m pretty sure I would have been a bit of a looney-toon. Being a mother is a 24-hour job that never stops. So, you must be creative to be able to remember that you are a human with needs of your own.

My “me moments” may not sound like much of a break to you, but it worked for me during this time and I even still use some of them to get me through a tough patch. I’ll just give you a list – there wasn’t a certain one to fix everything – it just depended on the situation at the moment.

  1. Singing in the shower
  2. Screaming in my pillow
  3. Sitting outside on the porch while they were napping
  4. Read early in the morning
  5. Buy myself a candy bar at the grocery store that was just for me
  6. Counting – inside my head – calms the spirit

I loved being a mother – I still do – but it’s so different now that they are men.

I guess I should answer the real question posed…The only real thing I like to take a break from is cooking and cleaning. When I go on vacation I don’t want to do any of those things. I do enjoy cooking and cleaning, but sometimes I just get tired of it and need a break. Funny thing is when we are at a restaurant and we are finished with our meal – I stack the plates and get everything ready for the waitress. At the hotel, I keep everything in order as if I was home. I am a strange person – I guess. I’m always happy to come home and get back into my routine. Taking a small break is important – we just have to remember – we have to get back to the reality of our responsibilities.
