Shopping Spree…Great Question!

Where would you go on a shopping spree?

I may not be normal. I can and do shop for myself, but I prefer to shop for others. It brings me the greatest joy watching my husband, my children and grandchildren open gifts I have bought for them. There’s really no certain place I prefer to shop. I’m not into brands, or the latest craze. I listen closely throughout the year to the things they like or are interested in and then I go on a search. It can be online, brick and mortar, or a catalogue. However, it seems that the best gifts are the ones from my heart and made by my own hands.

A few years ago, I wrote down all the recipes I made for my boys while they were growing up. I placed all the recipes in a cookbook binder, and gave one to each boy. So, when I’m gone, they can remember me by preparing one of those meals they enjoyed as a child.

This year I bought photo albums for each of the boys. I took my huge tote of pictures and divided them between the four boys depicting their lives from birth. I put them in random order – just to give it haphazard feel. It was so much fun watching them remember.

Shopping sprees seem to lack depth. I am at the age that I crave substance. However, I must include this fact – when I want something – I want it now. I hate to wait for things I think I need or really want. So, there’s that. Yet, giving is what best suits me.

  1. This is the best answer I’ve seen to today’s prompt, LaDonna. You have such lovely ideas and thoughts for gifts. I have my late Mum’s cookery book, written mainly by hand, and I cherish it as it’s like a trip down a foodie memory lane, looking at all the recipes we used to share when growing up. Also, the photos for your boys are an excellent idea. My daughter might appreciate that, although I don’t think my son would be very interested. I haven’t been doing the daily prompts, but I prefer giving to receiving, like you. It’s so lovely that you quietly listen for clues from your family about what they would like as a present. You obviously have a huge and kind heart. X 😊.
