I truly like the thought of a kid at heart. As we have grown, we have lost the whole idea of being a kid at heart. We have allowed all the adult worries and stresses to drown that little voice of a child to near silence. What a sad state to live in where there’s all work and no play. I believe we all need to try to let that voice to be heard more often – don’t you?
Unfortunately, there are two sides to this “kid at heart” situation. There are those who never listen to that child’s voice inside and become a rather hard, sour person that no one enjoys being around. Flip side is the person who only listens to that child’s voice and never properly grows up and is unreliable and selfish. Seems that a balance needs to be found.
I know from a personal standpoint that my busy adult life makes me so tired. I feel like I don’t have the energy or desire to do something out of the normal routine. I just want to sit on the couch after a long day and be boring. Don’t get me wrong. We do work hard, and we deserve to relax. If we don’t, we will come apart at the seams.
I think that it might help if we wrote a list of things that bring that child’s voice to life. It doesn’t have to be grand and expensive, but it does need to be fun. I know lists are adult things, but that’s how I get anything done. If it’s not on the list – it doesn’t get done.
The holidays are coming up quickly. A few things that make me feel like a kid at heart is eating candy canes. I love peppermint. It makes me happy. I like to swirl the bottom of the candy cane in my mouth and make a sharp point. There’s no reason or purpose. It just brings me joy. Another thing I enjoy is going to the toy stores. Yes, I have grandchildren to buy for, but I just like looking at the new toys and push the buttons. It makes me feel like a child again. See, it doesn’t need to be some big, complicated plan to enjoy that childlike joy. Choose simple things to get yourself started on the road to unlocking your inner child. I dare you!
