A Good Neighbor…Humm!

A good neighbor is something people rarely speak about these days. People are so wrapped up in their busy lives that they forget that there are people living right next to them. Times have changed so much. I’m not totally sure it is for the good. Yes, technology is great! We all use it on a daily basis. However, it has taken the place of actual conversation and interaction with people. I am guilty of this myself.

A good neighbor used to be someone who would look out for you through the hard times and the happy times. If you needed a cup of sugar in the midst of making cookies – it was normal to run next door with your measuring cup and you knew you would get what you needed. Today there probably wouldn’t be anyone home.

A good neighbor once watched your kids, and you watched there’s with no strings attached. Now kids are just as busy as their parents, or they don’t have any people skills to be able to communicate properly.

I miss the times of neighbors being friends. I miss simpler times where life was challenging – sure, but it didn’t seem to be so stressful. I picture cool evenings on the front porch with a glass of lemonade just watching the children catch lightening bugs and hear their laughter fill the air.

I know we can’t reverse time, but I do think we can invest in some time into getting to know our neighbors. We should put ourselves out there to take a pie to someone. We could help carry groceries in for an elderly lady. My momma always told me that I had to be a friend to have a friend. She was right! If you don’t take the first step – your neighbor will remain a stranger, and you will have missed out on some precious memories in the making. Are you a “Good Neighbor?”

  1. A good neighbor is someone just like yourself that wants the best for the community and a safe place for family to be able to walk to the store without something happening to them and to be able to pull put the barbecue pit and everyone brings out one of their special dishes for the community to try out
