Why Am I Here?

This question has plagued people for as long as time itself. We have looked in every possible place for an answer, but usually it is not found. However, if we look to the Bible, we will find exactly why we are here. We do have a purpose.

From the very beginning of our existence, there was a plan. As we were being knit together in our mother’s womb, each task was performed with distinction. The moment our tiny hearts began to beat our destiny was set in place. Each part of our creation was meticulously and lovingly prepared for the day of birth.

We were given to a family that was to love us and teach us how to be an adult. However, sometimes that family that we came into was less than perfect. Yet, this didn’t or doesn’t affect our “why am I here” question. We all still have a reason for being here in the eyes of the pages of the Bible.

We were knitted together to be the House of God. The Temple of God. This is why we are here. This is why we were created. He is to dwell within us. This evokes another big question, “Does it matter how I treat this body/Temple of God” that I have been given? Yes, a resounding, yes! Every part of your body should be given the utmost thought and attention to make sure it is fit to house the presence of God. What does that even mean?

It means that we should be aware of everything we allow to enter our bodies, minds, spirits. Our physical body is made up of many parts – right? Our eyes, we should be so careful what we allow ourselves to look at. Our ears, some things just aren’t appropriate for the Temple of God. Our mouths, this is a twofold warning. The words that pour from our lips should always be uplifting and for good not bad. The things we put in our bodies that cause us to lose control of our senses doesn’t bring glory to the House of God.

Next is our minds, we allow so much negativity to sit and smolder inside that causes us to react and act the wrong way. Anger, hatred, and jealously (to name a few) does not provide a pleasant place for the Creator of the Universe to dwell. Finally, our spirit is where our very essence makes us who we are as a person. Our spirit can be injured and never recover, which spawns us to be unbearable to be around. We need to be sure to try (on a daily basis) to make sure we make things right with God so we can be the place where God abides – joyfully.

What this all boils down to is that we need to make sure that every facet of our minds, bodies, and soul is fit for the King to live. If we are not living a pleasing life – it must be painful for our Savior. Just some food for thought!
