A Five Year Old’s Dream

Daily writing prompt
When you were five, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I know I’m probably not counted among the normal when it comes to my dreams, but I’m totally alright with that- really! When I was five – until I was was 24, all I ever wanted was to be a momma. I realize that most girls from my era dreamed of being a School Teacher, Stewardess, or Nurse. Those were more of the normal jobs or careers women were seeking, because they were trying to break the mold of being stuck in the house raising children. Yet, that’s all I dreamed of becoming some day.

I was the oldest of six children. My mother had to go to work to help support the family. My father was disabled. So, at a very young age, I began helping with my siblings. This kept me very busy. It also left little time to dream of what I wanted to be when I grew up. However, it did give me ample time to critique my mother’s parenting style. Through my childhood, adolescence, and into my teen years – I became very critical of how she took care of my siblings. In retrospect, I know she was doing the very best she could given the circumstances. God bless my dear momma.

So, short and long answer to today’s prompt – I wanted to be a momma. My pleadings and prayers were answered> I have four wonderful boys – who I adore. They have given me four grandchildren and another one on the way. I am beyond delighted.

Oh, there is so much more to this snippet of a story – but you will need to read it when I get my book published. Happy Writing!
