I believe that this question could cover a wide range of topics. However, the first thing that pops into my head is the vast difference between happy and joy. You may think that this is a trivial thought, but it is far from trivial. I believe many people walk around in a state of depression, because they can’t keep that “happy” feeling going all the time. This thought that happy is so fleeting in and of itself can be depressing. If you lookup the definition of happy – it is a “feeling or showing pleasure or contentment.” Happy is a come and go feeling. It’s based on situations, actions of others, or even in ones own achievements. It can disappear moments after receiving it.
On the other hand, joy is defined as the “belief that in the long run everything is going to be alright.” This confident reassurance provides a joy of peace. It isn’t something that is worked up my sheer will. It is a complete trust in God that He has your best interest at heart. Life is constantly throwing us curve balls that nearly knock us out of the game. How are we to survive such turmoil? Frankly, it is not going to be by our own strength. If we could get it into our minds that God is in control and whatever happens will work out. Or it might teach us a lesson we need to learn. Regardless, that trust, confidence, and reassurance brings joy. It is a joy that passes human understanding.
Do you have a fleeting happiness or a steady stream of joy coming from trust in a faithful God!?
