First, let me just say, I love my tech! I own many Apple products. I am one of those who desire the newest and shiniest piece to come on the market. I feel detached from the world if I don’t have my phone. I literally have a panic attack if I can’t find it. Sigh of relief – for sure when it is found!
As far as how it’s changed my job – well, without it I would have writers cramp everyday. There would be mounds of contracts to write up. Then the letters and calls I would need to make would be enormous. I would be exhausted with all the research I would have to do. I’m wore out just pondering the situation. Apparently, I’ve become dependent on technology much more than I realized. It is literally a part of my everyday life – day and night. So to actually answer the question of this prompt – It has made my job much easier. So, this invokes the inquiry – why am I still so tired at the end of the day?
I have much to say on this topic of technology. Even though I am a big fan of all things tech. I believe there is a time and place for everything. While driving – one should focus on driving – not chatting. In the evening, take time to concentrate on your family. Conversation is going the way of the dinosaur, which hurts our relationships, and we become strangers.
There is so much more to be said here, but lets direct our final thoughts to the amazing transformation technology has given us. I remember the days of getting up to change the channels on the tv, and there were only like 4 channels anyway. The telephone was connected to the wall and sometimes you had to wait for other people to get off the line so you could make your call. However, it was fun to listen to their conversations – it felt sneaky. When you had to do research – well it was a major undertaking with piles of books and several trips to the library, and notes scattered all over the place. In the kitchen – oh my the helps we have been given to make our lives easier are too many to recount at this time.
Simply, what I am saying is that we are beyond blessed. If you look back a generation or so – life was different in every aspect. People worked hard, definitely harder than we do today. All of this technology was supposed to make our lives easier – right? Then how come we are stressed to the max, overworked, and underpaid. The tech that was supposed to give us ample time to live has blinded us to how it was to be used. We walk around in a daze with our faces in our phone. Soon we will forget how to talk to one another. Technology is only as good as you allow it to be.
Today, put down the tech. Look at the sky. See the trees. Watch the birds flying high above you. Talk to the people in your lives. Reconnect with reality. It will make you smile!
