Write a letter to your 100-year-old self.
Dear 100-year-old LaDonna,
Well, you have made it to this monumental moment in your life. You have seen and heard so many things during your lifetime. You endured a pandemic, several crashes in the economic arena, and prices soaring above wages. You have seen your lineage grow beyond imagination. You have spent a lifetime with the man you love more than anyone else. These are all milestones that have both been bad and really good. Regardless, you have been blessed beyond measure.
However, I have a bit of a bone to pick with you. Can you please tell me why you never took time to take care of yourself? Sure, you had children to raise and a house to keep clean. You had a husband that you wanted to please. Not to mention all the other things you did along the way. However, all of this took every bit of energy you could muster. You hardly ever took time for yourself. You pushed your body beyond exhaustion. You lifted things you had no business lifting. You stay up late ironing clothes and packing lunches. Yes, I know it was done all out of love. I know that you don’t regret a moment you spent caring for others. This is who you were, are, and will continue to be.
I guess what I’m saying here is that your body aches so badly, because you were cruel to it. Your teeth are now gone, because it didn’t seem important as a child. The function of your body is running on a low battery, because you drained it too low – too many times. If I could roll back the years; I would implore you to take some time for self care. I don’t mean a selfish over indulging binge. Simply to treat your body better, to make smarter choices. So, that this your 100th birthday, you could enjoy the blessings you have been given.
P.S. I wish I could have the knowledge I now process when I was just starting out. I would certainly have made better choices.
P.S.S You young ones out there -m just starting out on your journey – take heed. Take time to care for yourself. Your 100-year-old self will be very grateful!
Blessed,
Your Younger (not really) Self!
