I’m Back!

It’s been way too long since I have taken time to let my pen create. Time, stress, and life in general has pushed away all my creative juices. So, this is my attempt to eliminate the cobwebs.

Life consists of seasons, which is common knowledge. However, what has me totally baffled is that we tend to want to speed through the spring, summer and fall of our lives. We want to be old enough to drive. We want to go to college, get married, and buy a house. We want our kids to be grown. And then when all of these things have come to pass, we want time to stop. When that winter season begins, we try to be positive. We tell ourselves that it’s going to be fine – that we are tough, and we can get through this. We try all sorts of things to hang on to our youth, like keeping up with the latest fashion trends. We watch videos to put on make-up. Some even go under the knife to redo what nature is tired of keeping together. It’s actually very sad to an older person pretending to be a young person. So sad.

By the winter of our lives, there are good things. We have wisdom, that came from experience. We understand what is truly important. Love and companionship are vital to our lives. There’s just so much to be thankful for … but there are many things we could do without. As the winter sets in we get cold, both physically and mentally. It’s as our thoughts get frozen, and we can’t get them out of our mouths. These bodies hurt in places they shouldn’t hurt. You can’t see a wound or something broken, but the pain is real and constant. If you sit down for more than ten minutes, sleep will follow. You walk into a room and look around confused why you are standing there. You’ve worked so long to get it all together and you are just too tired to care anymore. What’s one to do?

I guess the best and only thing to do is to just keep on going, taking that proverbial one step in front of the other. The sun keeps coming up each day whether it wants to or not – so I guess I should too. My little tidbit of advice is to enjoy each day you are given. Find something that makes you smile and then be thankful.
