Never Forget

These two words seem to be on everyone’s mind today. Obviously for good reason! I find it very strange that I can remember exactly what I was doing when this tragedy started to unfold. I was home doing some spring cleaning – even though it wasn’t spring. Sometime you just have to get rid of clutter – at least I do. I was busily going through a bunch of junk in my sideboard. The phone rang and a friend told me to turn on the tv. She was crying. I had no idea what on earth had happened. As the news was shared of the Twin Towers and the devastation that was happening, I too began to cry. How could something like this happen in America? We are supposed to be safe and sheltered from this kind of trauma. However, the truth be told, it was happening right before my eyes. All sense of safety was gone and fear filled my heart for my family, our town, and of course our country. How would we move beyond this?

It’s been 19 years, that in itself is hard to believe. Do we actually remember? Well, with the year we have had so far, it is easy to lose track of important things. We are so overwhelmed with the pandemic, nature’s fury, and man made disasters that it is hard to remember. However, today as we are reminded of 9/11, we need to not lose the sense of our oneness. We are Americans of every race, color and creed. It doesn’t matter about that – we are a people living in a wonderful country. We have enjoyed great blessings. I ask you to determine in your heart and mind to stand tall today as a blessed American. No political stuff – just a people blessed beyond measure.

I do realize that there are many who are suffering – even in this land of plenty. That is our call, our duty to seek out those in need and offer a helping hand. It may be a large donation, or a simple smile – however you are called to care – do it with all your might. As the saying has been said many times lately – “We are in this together!”

So as you look back today with respect for those who fell, remember also to look at those today who struggle, but mostly look forward to a bright tomorrow! We can help shape our tomorrows if we look beyond ourselves!!

WE ARE BLESSED!!!
