Labor Day was created to celebrate the social and economic accomplishments of workers in America. It is a “praise” as it were to those who have given so much to our country to make it strong.
Unfortunately, this year there are many workers wishing they were contributing by working a regular 9-5 job. Many folks are still without work due to the pandemic. They spend their days doing mundane tasks just to survive the boredom. People have the need to be needed. They require structure. Yet, more importantly, they have bills to pay.
This Labor Day, things may not be what we think they should be, but let’s take a moment to reflect on the good things that we can count as blessings. We are alive! Most still have a place to live. Food is getting scarce, but still available. We have our families and love. We have the sun that shines and comes up every day. We have the promise that tomorrow is a new day.
It is easy to focus on all the negative, especially when that is all we see, hear, and basically feel. However, we must make the most of each moment we are given. On this day, take a few moments of time to reflect on the good things you have in your life – even in the midst of the strangest year we have ever experienced. I encourage you today to look beyond the humdrum realities of our current condition and know that a better day is coming. So today – smile, laugh, and enjoy live. Celebrate!
