Encouragement – Day #4

Matthew 6:25-27 New International Version (NIV)

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[a]?

Here in Wisconsin, spring is coming on slowly. Usually it is winter, then spring for a week, then surprise – it’s summer. However, that is not the case this year. Today, April 28, 2020 I actually saw some dogwood trees starting to burst forth with new life. It thrills my heart to see this new life erupting into view. The grass is greener every day. The trees have tiny little leaves. The birds are singing songs of love to attract a mate. Oh, and making nests in my dryer vent. Regardless, I’m so excited to see this new life, because nature has its prime directive and is progressing right on schedule. It really doesn’t matter what is going on in the world, at all, it just stays on task.

Can we learn something from nature? Of course we can. Have you ever seen a bird worry? Or maybe a tree trying to decide if it should let it’s leaves bloom? What about a flower, have you witnessed one pacing through the flower bed trying to find the perfect place to live? All of this is just plain silly. Nature just exist by living in faith. They know what they are supposed to do and they do it. They don’t lose a single moment stressing about anything. We certainly can take lesson from nature.

We have things in our lives that we know we have to do. Then there are things we hope to do. Finally, there are things we wish we didn’t have to do. I implore you to just simply trust in God to lead you along life’s journey. There will be troublesome times, but even in the midst of troubles – we can still try to see something good. Decide today not to worry about what might happen, but set your attention on what you can affect. We lose so much joy in the “what might be” when we could live joyfully on what is.

Prayer:

Father God, Thank you that you have set each part of life into motion. Thank you that I don’t need to worry. Help me to concentrate on the here and now. Mostly, God, help me to see positive instead of negative. It’s my decision on whether I worry or trust! I chose to trust.

Thoughtfulness Action:

Today, walk around your house and look at each item you rely on daily. The chairs, the electricity, the frig…you get the point. How many of these things worry? Do you worry whether they will work or not? Usually you don’t. Then look outside – The sun still shines, the trees sway in the breeze, and the birds sing lovely songs – they don’t worry. So why should you? Choose to be happy today! It will improve your day so very much!
