It seems it was only yesterday
that I dreamed of being a mother.
I yearned for the sound of a tiny voice.
I longed to hold a small one all my own.
For that little person
that was created in love, and given by God.
I finally got that precious gift…
But time has played a mean trick on me.
It has taken my small one away
Now he is a man…
Ready to go out into this cruel world.
He must learn lessons I cannot teach.
Father, sheild my small one.
Protect his mind, Guard his heart,
Direct his steps.
May he be all he should be
I entrust him to you, Father.
For one day he will have a small one
that he must teach the ways of God.
Time passes all to fast.
I wrote this when my first son went off to college.
