My Mother

Mother I blame you for my stubbornness

When someone tells me I can’t, I insist that I will

I’ve seen you stand strong when the storms of life were raging all around you

So when my heart has been broken, I knew the sun would rise tomorrow

Mother I saw your compassion and love for your family

Even when I felt you were giving too much

It gave me a firm foundation to build my family upon

Mother you had big dreams for our family

To be close and care for one another

I followed your lead and poured into my family

Love, compassion, encouragement and dreams

Mother I’m grateful for the long hours you worked

To keep us bathed, a clean house, and food on the table

There were days when I thought you were going to drop

You did so much for us, your family

Our days together were cut short, and I miss you so

But the lessons both good and bad that you lived out before me

They have made me the person I am today

For this I am grateful …
